Most Delicious Sandwich
I am currently ridiculously obsessed with this smoky maple marinated tempeh bacon (made by Turtle Island Foods). Specifically eating the tempeh bacon as my mom used to make it in a toasted sandwich with mayonnaise, lots of fresh sliced tomato, and freshly ground black pepper. (Pan frying the bacon first of course and no lettuce!)
I'm not usually one to buy pre-marinated tofu or tempeh, and try not to buy too many fake meat products, but this is one that I will be buying all the time.
I've tried other fake bacons before (the storebought ones, not homemade) and wasn't impressed and found them nothing like bacon. Okay obviously tempeh bacon does not = real bacon, but it's seriously pretty darn close!! This is some GOOD fake bacon. And I must admit that I did used to love bacon. So this isn't really a recipe, it's more of a I-can't-get-enough-of-eating-this-so-I-have-to-share-it-with-you post.
PS - For those of you that live in Canada, you should check out Silver Hills Squirrelly bread. It's the best whole grain bread! (And it's sprouted too.)

I seriously love that tempeh and all the silver hills breads :)
I haven't tried any of the flavoured tempehs, but glad to hear you found one that you like! I will have to try it out! Homemade tempeh bacon is also on my bucket list, though. :)
Tofurky does know their tempeh! As far as convenience foods go, I'd have to say that pre-seasoned/marinated tempeh is a far lesser evil than most, and definitely one that you needn't explain. :)
I'd be obsessed with this sandwich too!
I don't usually buy marinated tempeh or tofu either but I'd make an exception for BACON!
that looks delicious! And thanks for the bread reference.. I was going to ask because it looks so good with those seeds! Unfortunately I am not near Canada to enjoy it :(
In spite of the missing lettuce, this sandwich looks incredible Ashley. I hope to find your recommended Turtle Island Food brand of tempeh here in the deep South.
Here in the South, people tend to think that tofu and tempeh are martial arts forms like karate or jujitsu or perhaps the brand name for a small import car. Lucky for me I have a couple of places to look in the Orlando area (Whole Foods, Hoovers, and Chamberlains). LOL.
Thanks for sharing and making the Blogsphere a better place for doing so. :)
Oh, man, I am so jealous of that sandwich! Look at those sesame seeds! ZOMG
Given my adoration for tempeh...totally need to try this. Wonder if Whole Foods has it...
Oh, I haven't seen their maple bacon tempeh before. I usually buy their deli slices. if I see them I'll give 'em a try.
I've tried making tempeh bacon but it has always been a disappointment because it doesn't crisp up enough - but this looks great - wonder how they do it - I have finally tried tofu bacon and think I will stick to this now
Was just at Whole Foods yesterday and couldn't find the tempeh... :-(
So glad you referenced the bread too! I was also going to ask. I love sesame seeds in my bread. Being in BC myself, is there a specific store that carries it? I don't know if I've seen it before.
I live in Surrey, BC, and have never seen Tempeh bacon anywhere! Does anyone know where I can buy it???
MissNikkiSays: The only place I've seen it is Whole Foods. Other natural food type stores might carry it (Choices, Donald's Market, etc). I'm not sure what store in Surrey would.
